Zangler's Shop

Zangler's provincial grocery was in worn woodtones, in contrast to the 'clean' modern look of nearby Vienna. In keeping with the style, there was no door upstage, but the actors mimed opening and closing it, with the appropriate door tinkles and slams subtly added with sound effect.

Zanglers Shop

Sound always plays an important part of my shows, and this one was no exception. There were copious sound effects, such as the door tinkles, champagne corks, carriage sounds, and Strauss punctuation music at the ends of scenes, as transitional effects. The sets were also changed by actors, in sylized characters in full view of the audience.
