The Imaginary Invalid

Set and Lighting Design (and Direction) by Jon Ares.

February 2008.

Directed by Jon Ares. Costume Design by Annie Kaiser. Sound Design by Corbin Wescott.

James Magruder’s new translation had a fresh turn on the language, plus it was full of enough adolescent potty humor to please me. (Do fart jokes ever get old?)

I wanted to keep the set simple – but I wanted it to be a “perfect jewel” which I believe was accomplished. The upstage wall was upholstered as if it were an enormous headboard for Argan, the invalid. (The proverbial padded walls? Or perhaps cushioning for all the physical fighting which Toinette and Argan engaged?)
